Approximately 150 people turned out for meeting last week about a possible locations for a new county reservoir, but officials made little headway in gaining access to the sites.


The Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority hosted a three-hour drop-in event at the Jefferson Civic Center. The purposes were to provide information about the Nicholson area sites in the running for a new county reservoir — and to talk people into letting surveyors onto the property.

Call it a win-win-win situation. A West Jackson developer got his property in better shape for development, the Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority got six-tenths of an acre it needs to serve potential commercial customers, and Jackson County would get the taxes off that new development.

Rebuffing lawsuit threats made in October by Barrow County Board of Commissioners Chairman Doug Garrison, Jackson County said last week it intends to pursue its litigation against the Upper Oconee Basin Authority. [Full Story »] 

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners met behind closed doors with the county water authority for one hour Monday morning before voting to file a lawsuit against the Upper Oconee Basin Authority over the county’s share of the Bear Creek reservoir.

The BOC voted for the law firm of Balch and Bingham to file the lawsuit to “verify and establish the county’s share of the reservoir.” Bruce Yates made the motion and commissioner Dwain Smith and chairman Pat Bell voted in favor of it.
