Turn signals are coming to the traffic light at the intersection of Hwy. 129 and Old Pendergrass Road, Jefferson mayor Roy Plott announced at Monday night’s city council meeting.
The intersection was the scene of a fatal accident involving Jefferson High School students William Trimble and Alex Trimble Nov. 17.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) had already planned to make this change prior to the crash. It will provide three-way turn signals at that traffic light. A signal will not be provided for drivers turning from Hwy. 129 southbound to Old Pendergrass Road due to what the DOT considered low turn volume.
Plott said these signals would be “lagging” turn signals. Traffic going across will flow first and the turn signal will follow that.
