Lt. Jeff Whitfield, a former Jefferson Police Chief who flew medical evacuation helicopters during the First Persian Gulf War and later worked as an FBI agent, died Tuesday evening in a head-on auto crash near his home in Jefferson.
The wreck happened around 6:30 p.m. on Storey Lane off of Hwy. 129 north of town.
Th wreck left another person injured, Heather Lashae Tate, 25, of Jefferson. Tate was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
