A man was arrested Monday by the Jefferson Police Department in connection with a car jacking earlier in the day.
Michael Douglas Kidd, 46, 55 Ivey Lane, Jefferson, was charged with hijacking a vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine.
The victim said that he was at work at a Lyle Field Road business when a man came in and asked for jumper cables and assistance with his vehicle. The victim said he told him that he would get off work in a few minutes and would help him.
The victim said he drove the man to Spratlin Estates Subdivision, located of Hwy. 82. He said the man pointed to a Toyota Corolla that was sitting in the cul de sac and said it was his vehicle. He said they stopped at the Toyota and got out of his car. The victim said the man then pulled out a small semi–automatic handgun and stated, “Empty everything out of your pockets.” He gave the man his wallet. He said the man then got into his vehicle and drove away.
A woman in the neighbor gave a statement that she witnesses the dispute between the two men and saw one drive away in the vehicle. She also said that the Toyota Corolla does belong to her and not the man she saw in the dispute.
A look out was placed on the victim’s vehicle and a police officer spotted it on Washington Street. The vehicle was topped at the intersection of Hoschton Street and Old Pendergrass Road and the driver was identified as Kidd. The officer noted that Kidd did have a small silver handgun on him.
