Jefferson home damaged in fire

A Jefferson home was heavily damaged in a fire on Friday.

The Arcade, Jefferson, and the Jackson County CI fire departments responded to 317 Adams Road on a reported structure fire on Friday. Upon arrival of the first units, they found a one story single family residence with fire showing from the roof area. The residence is listed as having heavy fire and smoke damage. The occupants were home at the time of the fire and escaped the structure without injury. No other injuries were reported and the incident.

The Arcade Fire Department in conjunction with the State Fire Marshall’s Office is conducting the cause and origin of the fire.

Fatality in wreck Saturday in Talmo

William T. Bryant, 49, Commerce, died in a one-vehicle wreck Saturday night in Talmo.

Bryant was driving on Old State Road when he lost control and struck a tree, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol.

The North Jackson Fire/Rescue and Jackson County EMS responded to 3210 Old State Road at 9:30 p.m. on a reported auto accident with injuries. Upon arrival of the first units, they found a single vehicle accident involving a Dodge pickup and a tree with three patients trapped inside the vehicle.

North Jackson Rescue quickly extricated the severely trapped patients and Bryant was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the accident. The other two patients were transported by Jackson County EMS to North East Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, with non-life threatening injuries. Both were listed in stable condition.

The Georgia State Patrol and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office investigated the incident.

NJFD keeps truck from exploding

Members of the North Jackson Fire Department responded Friday night to a truck fire on Hwy. 129 north of Pendergrass where a load of diesel fuel was threatened. The fire at the front of the truck was knocked down by firemen before it spread to the tanker and no fuel leaked, said officials.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Traffic was re-routed by Pendergrass police until the road could be reopened.

Charges against Jefferson police officer dropped

Man assaults three women, officers

Damage reported at local cell phone tower

An employee for a cell phone provider said someone cut a chain-link fence around a cell phone tower in Hoschton, according to an incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Thief caught after taking items from car
