A fire whipped by gusty winds destroyed a large two-story home on Jefferson River Road Tuesday. Several Jackson County fire departments responded to the blaze, which happened about midday. The fire happened at 8825 Jefferson River Road in South Jackson. The house was listed for sale in September and was reportedly built in 1976.

Three homeless men were charged with forgery, after they said two other men drove them from Atlanta to Braselton to cash fake checks at a bank.

Air conditioner units stolen from unoccupied homes

Air conditioner units were taken from several homes in Charlotte Estates on Skelton Road.

One of the unoccupied homes was also vandalized, according to an incident report filed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
