The county and some cities in Jackson County have seen an increase in building permits for the first quarter.
Looking at a three-month period (January, February and March), last year Jackson County issued a total of 192 building permits. This year, that figure has jumped to 364.
Last year in the town of Braselton, 43 new building permits were issued. This year, 68 permits were issued.
In Jefferson-Talmo, the total of building permits have increased from 21 to 35, with the majority of permits being new residential homes in Jefferson.
In Hoschton in 2013, there were no new building permits, only one alteration. In 2014, two new home permits have been issued and three alterations were permitted.
The City of Talmo and the City of Commerce did not issue any permits in those time periods for either year.
The City of Arcade had no new building permits in 2013 or in 2014, but issued permits to replace a bathroom and a trailer.
