The West Jackson Fire District has the highest tax rate in the county, as well as being the district with the biggest increase this year.
The West Jackson tax levy for 2013, which funds the department’s 2014 budget, is 2.63 mills, up from 1.88 mills. That is a 40 percent increase.
Two other fire districts also had tax hikes. The Central Jackson Fire District went from 1.575 mills to 1.76 mills, a 12 percent increase.
The Jackson Trail Fire District went from 1.16 mills to 1.44 mills, a 24 percent increase.
