A man was killed Wednesday night in a house fire in Hoschton.
The name of the victim has not been released. Another person in the home was taken to an Athens hospital with burn injuries.
The West Jackson Fire Department was called to a fire with entrapment on Jackson Meadows Drive, off of Jackson Trail Road, at 9:46 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
“Jackson Trail was coming back from another call and was on the scene in two minutes with our engine arriving five minutes later,” West Jackson fire chief Ben Stephens said Thursday morning. “Two 2-man teams entered in the bedroom window of the unaccounted for person (one searching, one fighting the fire) and found no victim. The remainder of the house was already fully involved in fire to include the roof collapsing. I pulled both teams out after they searched the full extent of searchable area as the roof was failing and collapsing on top of them. Once we were able to get the fire under control, a secondary search of the structure found the victim in another part of the home.”
