The Jackson County Board of Education officially approved an amended calendar last week for the upcoming school year that in effect has 10 furlough days for teachers.
Under the calendar, students will begin class on Friday, Aug. 9 and end the year on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
Under the plan, teachers will have 180 contract days, 10 less than normal. Students will have 176 days, meaning that teachers will only have a total of four planning days during the year.
