A JEFFERSON MAN tried to hide his marijuana in his grandmother’s purse, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
John Randall Carter, 23, told a deputy during a traffic stop at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 11 and Jackson Trail Road that he could search his vehicle. A deputy said Carter had previously been arrested on a methamphetamine charge.
Carter’s 77-year-old grandmother was in the vehicle during the traffic stop.
A deputy then asked the grandmother if he could search her purse. Carter then said he put some marijuana in her pocketbook, according to an incident report.
A small bag with marijuana was found in the purse. Carter later said he didn’t think the deputies would search his grandmother’s purse and that’s why he placed the marijuana inside.
Carter was charged with safety restraint violation, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and failure to keep pills in original container. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
For other incidents and arrests, see the Oct. 1 edition of The Jackson Herald.
Talk about an invasion of privacy! This is why most everyone hates cops. They don't act like regular people. They just enjoy abusing the power they are trusted with, which is why many of them became cops in the first place.
I don't know of ANY lawabiding person in this county who "hates" cops!We are proud of all our law officers!
Next time you need help from a robbery, assult or accident,Call a pot head!!!
Thanks to all our officers who help keep our county safe!
Of course. Why not? I'm sure everyone reading this would love to have the police search their cars and homes to end the plague of crimes in this county. All in favor please write in.
On the other hand the law don't have to have a search warrent in a traffic stop.If they think you have drugs or anything else illeagal and they can search. Yes you can tell them they can't search but if you do then they will get a search warrent and search anyway. Then it's gonna cost you more because they are probably going to take your car and tear it all apart then sell it. So if you let them search and they find something you catch a charge but if you make them go through the trouble of getting a warrent you still catch a charge and you also just lost your car.
You are the kind of people who if he had a gun and shot the cop would say it was an accident. You would probably say he was showing the gun to the cop and it went off by accident?
But if someone does break into my house at night a firearm may be directed at them. It won't be an accident.
I don't understand people who don't believe in the bill of rights. Did you move here from the former Soviet Union? Do you really think by violating others' rights that yours will be preserved?
Ask the former captain of the Jefferson Police Department if he feels safe from the police now. He has now been on the receiving end of the executive branch of the government. If the police don't follow the rules then we are all in deep you know what.
Soon they'll be taking you away for some made-up crime or another. They don't have 6 fully staffed and brand new prisons in central GA for just anyone! When the New World Order takes over, they'll admonish religion, and all other rights. You fight, you die. It's coming. Just wait until 2010!
anyways, I can only imagine the panic that went through Mr. Carter's mind as he saw the blue lights behind him . . . after, of course he broke traffic laws to get himself pulled over in the first place. There is a such a thing called personal responsibility, and while many fail to embrace that concept . . . it will catch up with you one day; wanted or unwanted. Mr. Carter here, is hopefully learning this concept.
Some of you here are taking this argument to places it should never be. Here we sit, arguing about the police and their right to search us . . . when you have a 23 year old man who is now on his second drug charge. 23 YEARS OLD. Why does that not produce some type of reaction? Have we grown that cold? Has it simply become the "norm" so much that we have no reaction? It is the people his age who are our future. It is people like him who will define the next generation of our city and of our county.
Selfishness. That word sums up the attitudes presented here fairly well. From the ones who are so concerned about the cops to the actual druggies and potheads. You are concerned about one thing and one thing only. You. God forbid we actually get off our rear end and do something to help these people. NO, let's sit around and argue about 2010 and the New World Order or some crap like that. So let me ask you this "gonetothedawgs" and anyone else who cares to reply . . . since you are so concerned about the "New World Order" and the things that go with it such as police power, etc . . . exactly what do you (personally) do that contributes to society here in Jackson Co? How do you (personally) help people like Mr. Carter? or is there no hope for us and the police will come and take us all to jail for no reason?? Please enlighten me . . .
I urge all law-abiding citizens to gun-up for this possible eventuality.
The American militia man should not be underestimated.
Personally I will not volunteer to give up my rights even if that means negative consequences.
No one would be giving our kids drugs if the were legal and regulated and taxed. This would eliminate all profit to the gangs and other organized criminals, i.e. terrorists.
We should have learned this from prohibition but we have not.
If my kid does drugs it means I did not supervise him properly. I am responsible.
In the early 20th century you could buy a Coke with real coke in it. People were not laying around dead in the street. Taxes could be used for treatment.
Gambling is a vice too but we now benefit from the proceeds in the form of the state lottery and rehab is available with the funds for those who can't handle that level of freedom.
Not all bad things are criminal. Drugs are stupid. No doubt but why should we all suffer from just a few that are stupid. Let them do them and let Darwin work. Leave the rest of us alone as our founding fathers intended.
Drugs could be legal for those over 21 also but not kids.
As Dr. Laura suggests, "I am my kids Dad." I am responsible.
