Last Tuesday started out as many days have for the Lady Eagles this year. First they lost to North Oconee 0-2, with set scores of 9-25 and 8-25. Next they lost to Athens Christian 0-2, with set scores of 15-25 and 10-25.
But then came East Jackson’s area match with Greene County, and a 2-0 area win for East Jackson’s record books, with set scores of 25-22, and 27-22.
“We’re very proud of that win,” said coach Tim Thomas. “We’re also proud that our athletic director, Johnny Tucker, was there to celebrate it with us.”
Next up for the Lady Eagles was a road trip to Cedar Shoals to face the Lady Jaguars and Loganville. They returned with a pair of losses, with Cedar Shoals winning 2-0 with a score of 25-7 in both sets, and Loganville winning 2-0 with set scores of 25-9 and 25-14.
Some of the stat leaders over the last few weeks, according to Thomas, include Jaclyn Klerk for serving 2.5 aces per game. Victoria Bennett, Mikki McGinnis and Ansley Brooks lead in service receiving, with all three at over 70 percent. Jenna Dukes and McGinnis lead in attacks, with both averaging about five per game, while Brooks leads in attack percentage.
The top three in team points are McGinnis, Dukes and Brooks, while McGinnis leads in defense, averaging about three digs per game.
Now East Jackson prepares for Thursday’s matches with Jefferson and Tallulah Falls. Thomas said the team is looking forward to the pairings.
“They’ve both beaten us already this season, and we didn’t play either of them very well the first time out. We’re excited about the possibility of making up for those two losses.”
