Jefferson’s cross country team enjoyed a trip to Jekyll Island last weekend.
Race day brought nearly perfect running conditions for the Dragon runners and both squads took advantage of the conditions to showcase their performances.
“We headed down to the beach last weekend and came back with a trophy and a ton of personal records,” said coach Charles Elfer.
The girls placed third in the varsity race, losing only to Marietta High and a Florida team. All time personal best performances were run by Alison Missler, Mariah Porras, Kathy Buffington, Lauren Phillips and Kimmie Champlin. Season best performances were also run by Jessica Runkel, Kaylee Lopez, and Clara Logue. The girls cross country team is currently ranked 6th in the state in AA.
For the Jefferson boys, times continued to drop as the runners have stedialy improved over the season. Josh Deremer, Clay Richards, Trae Timmerman, Michael Stephenson, Austin Bragg, Cannon Joiner, Phil Brust – also finished fifth in his race, Carter Mixon and Caleb Edwards achieved all time bests. Michael Stephenson and Alison Missler were named the Jefferson runners of the week.
The Jefferson runners race again on Saturday, October 4, at Alexander High School.
