BOE buys WJ land for new high school

A 98-acre site for a potential new West Jackson high school was approved to be purchased by the Jackson County Board of Education at its meeting Monday night. The BOE unanimously agreed to authorize the purchase of the property for $666,400 from the Timms Family Partnership. The property is located along Hwy. 332 just north of its intersection with Hwy. 124. Although system leaders said there are no immediate plans to begin construction on a new high school, the land is being purchased now at a low price for future growth in the system, said superintendent John Green. SPLOST funds are being used to purchase the property.

Same old story. Let's use splost funds, folks it is still tax dollars. When splost comes up for vote,they will tell you about all the dept and you have to vote yes or they will raise your taxes. The message is just quit spending.

It's probably a no-win situation for the BOC. If they buy the land now, they will be criticized for spending that amount of money.

If they don't buy the land now, and the need arises 5 years down the road for a new school, people will yell at them for not buying it when it was cheaper.

School systems all over purchase land many years in advance of building anything. Sometimes as much as 20 years. Nothing new on this front. Man they can not win can they?

Buying now is the right thing to do land is way way down.

You obviously don't understand how SPLOST works. This is paid for by EVERYONE who travels through and spends money in Jackson County. It helps take some of the burden off of the county citizens. If you don't want to contribue to the SPLOST in your county, don't spend money here. Go to Athens-Clarke or any where else- that way, when you shop in those stores, you will help fund their schools. That makes a lot of sense

A tax is a Tax, I don't care how you spin it, wrap it or lie about it. It is still a tax. The best way to take the burden off county tax payers is to stop spending so much. East Jackson still has class room they don't use. I pay property taxes that are suppose to fund schools. I am told if we don't approve splost then they will raise my taxesSo if I don't vote for a tax. raise they will raise it any way. To quote you and your THAT makes a lot of sense.

You have been brainwashed by what they call reiglion'. And you have NO IDEA if the bible was written by god' himself or not. You can't know that. You take it on faith. So, you believe all that stuff you mentioned ON FAITH, not fact. So by your logic if i had faith that the moon was made of cheese, that would make it true? God, why are religious people so stupid and believe anything a book tells them? You don't even know if someone tampered with the message, or ANYTHING.

Good thing they laid off that handful of teachers a couple years ago. Money is clearly very tight in these parts. At least some arrogant little small town politicians got to pretend to care about spending for some good press in an election year.
