A Jefferson man was arrested following a domestic dispute call last weekend where he tried to choke a basset hound at his Elrod Avenue apartment in front of his wife and 15-year-old stepchild. Robert Pilgrim, 43, has been charged with simple battery, cruelty to children, cruelty to animals, criminal trespass and battery in relation to the Oct. 6 incident.
For the full story, see the Oct. 10 issue of The Jackson Herald.

You know who I admire? Stan Evans for the way he handled the kid with a bomb at the school. He saved the hostage and the hostage taker and did not allow the bomb to go off. All without a shot. He's a hero in my eyes for this. Cops who fill citizens with lead when it's obvious it wasn't necessary disgust me.
This is my last word on the subject FJCR. We've beaten this dead horse enough.
Ahimsa House works to address this link and can be a resource for people dealing with this horrific abuse.
However, I have had the misfortune to discover that in some cases, it's all in who you know. This county is still run on the good ol' boy system, from the police all the way up to the judges. It seems to matter more if you know someone in the right position or grew up with them here... than providing protection and justice.
If this man is innocent then he will get the chance to prove that. If he is not, then he deserves to have the same things done to him that he has done to others. I hope she gains the strength and confidence to leave him and not turn back if this is true. No one has the right to judge another unless they have been in that person's shoes.
BUT alot of women do go back because the abuser makes them feel they are worthless and they deserve the abuse? I would put the abuse in prison until the victim forgot all about them and could move on?
