More than 7,300 students are expected to enter the Jackson County School System this year, which is a slight increase from enrollment numbers last year. Teachers were at the schools on Wednesday, Aug. 1, for pre-planning and students start on Monday, Aug. 6.
The estimated enrollment district-wide is 7,357, according to the office of the superintendent. Those numbers broken down per each school are: Benton Elementary School 325, East Jackson Elementary School 484, Gum Springs Elementary School 806, Maysville Elementary School 361, North Jackson Elementary School 341, South Jackson Elementary School 565, West Jackson Intermediate School 362, West Jackson Primary School 407, Kings Bridge Middle School 363, East Jackson Middle School 442, West Jackson Middle School 914, East Jackson Comprehensive High School 975, Jackson County Comprehensive High School 1012.
John Green, Jackson County School System superintendent, said that that personnel changes this year will include “a restructuring of the central office support staff combined with an overall absorption plan.” The ongoing construction at JCCHS, otherwise dubbed the ‘Panther Project,’ continues with the new gym and fine arts facility under construction.
