A JEFFERSON woman who received a suspicious call last week about cable services found that the call was an apparent scam.
The Weaver Drive resident reported to the Jefferson Police Department that she had recently purchased cable service and later received a call from a “supposed contractor” representing the cable network service asking if he could come out and run a check on the installation. The complainant stated she was suspicious of the man having not requested such service and she began asking questions that he could not provide answers for, so she told him no and then hung up the phone.
The complainant stated she called the cable provider and they checked to see if anyone had been dispatched and she was told no one had been, nothing suspicious was found on her account and she was advised not to let anyone in her residence.

Other incidents reported last week to the Jefferson Police Department included the following:
•unruly juvenile at a Danielsville Street, Jefferson, residence. The female complainant/mother reported her 16-year-old daughter missing from the residence. The mother stated a window at the residence was open and the screen was missing from the window.
•attempt to commit financial identity fraud at Burger King, Highway 129 North, Jefferson. The complainant/manager reported a white female, driving a dark colored SUV, presented a fake $100 bill at the drive through. The complainant was able to provide the tag number for the vehicle.
•cruelty to children and battery – family violence act (FVA) at a Jefferson Boulevard, Jefferson, residence, where a physical domestic dispute was reported.
•damage to property on Jett Roberts Road, Jefferson. The complainant reported he crashed his vehicle at this location more than a week ago, but failed to call the police. The complainant stated he hydroplaned during a heavy rain and “rolled his vehicle.”
•forgery at Burger King, Highway 129 North, Jefferson. The complainant reported a male with brown curly hair and bumps all over his face and a female with red hair had driven through the drive through in a late 90s model gold Honda or Saturn car and attempted to pass a fraudulent $20 bill. The complainant stated the male and female look to be the same individuals who tried to pass a fake $100 bill the previous day.
•forgery at Tabo’s Food Mart, Lee Street, Jefferson, where the complainant/clerk reported a male had passed a $500 check on a closed account with SunTrust Bank.
•theft by conversion at Morton Street, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant/landlord reported a Kenmore refrigerator valued at $700 and a Kenmore microwave valued at $250 missing. The complainant stated he thought the items were taken my mistake by friends helping his former tenants move out.
•wanted person located in the parking lot at Wendy’s, Highway 129 North, Jefferson, during a traffic stop.
•rape at a Park Drive, Jefferson, residence.
•at Kroger, Old Pendergrass Road, Jefferson, a complainant reported she was shopping with her juvenile daughter at Kroger and ran into her sister. The complainant stated her sister picked up her daughter and the complainant told her to put her daughter down and her sister complied. The complainant stated her sister was upset with her and caused a scene wanting to know why she wasn’t allowed to see the complainant’s children. The complainant stated there is an “ongoing battle” with her family and her children are scared of her sister.
•information at the Publix Shopping Center, Braselton, where the female complainant reported that her ex-husband did not show up to exchange custody of their kids for visitation purposes.
•criminal trespass to property at a Curry Drive, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported someone had broken a window out of her rental property. The responding officer reported he found a rock on the floor, inside the residence, surrounded by broken glass. The complainant stated she believed a neighbor, who had gotten upset with her because she didn’t have any money to loan him and she denied his request to cut the grass on the property, caused the damage because of his actions and attitude towards her.
•theft by taking at a Washington Street, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported the theft of his $40 lawnmower. The complainant provided the name of the person possibly responsible for the theft. The complainant stated several friends told him this individual was trying to sell them the lawnmower for $30.
•theft by conversion at Harco Equipment Rental Inc., Washington Street, Jefferson, where the complainant reported a female rented a Wacker generator valued at $2,991 and a Husqvarna chainsaw valued at $400 and never returned the items.
•vehicle fire at the First Baptist Church, Washington Street, Jefferson.
•at a Jefferson residence, a complainant reported her 15-year-old daughter was unruly.
•information at a Cross Ridge Subdivision, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported several possible code enforcement issues concerning lawns not being mowed. The responding office reported he took digital photographs of seven homes – three possible foreclosures and four currently occupied – which appeared in violation of a city ordinance.
•miscellaneous at a Peachtree Road, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported a verbal argument.
•theft by taking at a Plantation Drive, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported her son’s Mongoose bicycle, valued at $200, missing from the front porch.
•simple battery – FVA at a Sycamore Street, Jefferson, residence, where the complainant reported a domestic dispute.
•welfare check at a Spinner Drive, Jefferson, residence. The responding officer reported he wasn’t able to contact anyone at the residence. The officer stated he could see through the windows into the living room and the house looked nice and orderly.
