New superintendent to earn $157,500 a year

The Jackson County School System’s new superintendent will earn $157,500 a year, according to his contract approved by the board of education.

John Green was named the district’s next superintendent by the BOE in May. He officially starts working for the school system on July 1.

Green is replacing Shannon Adams, who is retiring because of health reasons. Adams earned $163,200 during the 2011 fiscal year — the latest records available on the state’s audit website. He was also paid almost $1,600 for travel expenses.

The problem with government is, unlike a private enterprise, it grows in bad times as well as good times. Ya think we could have found someone for under $100k?

But then he would be making less than the staff under him with much less responsibility. This newspaper has covered some of the most recent main office promotions that were over 100K then add in last year raises.

So, it's a start. When the other overpaid parasites sucking up our education dollars retire we can replace them with less than $100k people. It's not rocket science.

wonder what the "real" cost to the county is??
salary + travel expense + professional memberships + paid health benefits for family equals a lot more that $157k. to many hidden $$ in this contract. need complete disclosure if the BOE wants any credibility or respect

1. The county only pays for your gas and hotel stays if you absolutly HAVE to stay.
2. Health benefits are subtracted from your check each month.

Yes, health benefits are deducted from your check- your portion. The Employer still pays for some of the insurance. Also, most in the public sector have to pay the FICA cost as well. $157k is not the total cost....

add $5000 per year for in county travel and several thousands for professional memberships; it quickly adds up; probably over $175k

So Dr. Adams pulled in $1,600 in travel expenses for 2011. Mr. Green gets $60,000 for travel related expenses. That's the big difference. The other big difference is we have now joined the semi-big league with a new superintendent from Gwinnett County who's requires $60K a year for travel (can you say new car and then some). We no longer have a "small potato" superintendent. The $60K is an example of that. More examples to come.

I've heard some people say Mr. Green is cocky and arrogant. I've heard some say he is a good guy. I've heard some say he will clean house in 3-6 months. I've heard a lot of things. We'll have to wait and see. No matter what Mr. Green does in the future, I'll bet there is not one parent or citizen with enough courage to challenge him head on if he's in the wrong.

There's way too many citizens with no back-bone in Jackson County. 99%+ of the citizens in Jackson County don't have the courage to stand up in public to right a wrong. The other 1% does your dirty work for you.

Where's did the real courage go?
