Qualifying opened at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and six candidates for sheriff were scheduled to qualify with the Jackson County Republican Party. GOP chairman Kelley Gary said on Wednesday morning that the following sheriff candidates were scheduled to file their paperwork on the first day of qualifying: Andy Garrison, Ramone Gilbert, Janis Mangum, Randy Moore, Ronnie Norris and Greg Vaughn.

Qualifying for the July 31 election will end at noon on Friday.
