The Jackson County Board of Education has named two finalists for its next superintendent — both of whom haven’t been employed by the county school system.
Board chairperson Lynn Massey-Wheeler announced in a statement issued late Wednesday afternoon that Dale Gaddis and Dr. John Green are the finalists for the top position in the Jackson County School System.
Gaddis is currently an area assistant superintendent for the Cobb County School System and Green is the principal of James Clemens High School in Madison, Ala.
By state law, the school system has to announce its finalists for superintendent 14 days prior to a vote. Wheeler said district officials hope to have its next superintendent in place by July 1 — before Shannon Adams leaves the post. He has cited health concerns for his reason to retire.
“Forty-four applications were received from a broad range of applicants,” Wheeler said in a statement. “From these, seven candidates were chosen for close review and four candidates were interviewed as the board sought to determine those applicants best qualified for the position.”
She said that the two candidates were determined by the school board as the best qualified for the superintendent position.
Information on Gaddis and Green will be posted on the school system’s website — www.jackson.k12.ga.us — and at the district’s central office.

Mr. Gaddis gave me a chance as a young man to make better choices in my life.
Thank you for the chance to prove myself.
Dr Green hired me for my first teaching job and gave me a chance to be part of a great community and school.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of the greatest profession and helping students to reach their full potential.
Dr. Green does have an ego but he will definitely move this county in the right direction for striving for the best.
