EPD fines county for Zion Road project

Jackson County was fined $13,080 by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division due to violations at the Zion Church Road project in West Jackson.

The board of commissioners approved a consent agreement Monday night and agreed to pay the $13,081 fine. County manager Kevin Poe said BMK and E.R. Snell will reimburse the county for the fine.

On Jan. 26, the EPD conducted a routine visit of the site and documented that sediment had impacted water as a result of inadequate maintenance of the “best management practices.” The EPD also noted that water quality inspections were not conducted at the site, as required.

and if I got all the taxpayers to have to pay $5.00 more dollars on my bill you know what I would lose my job in a sane world? 70K Jackson County Residents and $13,000 Fine equals $5.54. Where is the money going to come from to pay that...why us of course? Here is to Kevin Poe...the best County Manager we ever had!!!!!

are a incorrect... on BOTH of your points no less:

1- Read the article. The money isn't coming from you. It's coming from BMK and ER Snell.

2- Your math is the exact OPPOSITE that it should be. $5.54, per your cited resident figure, would be a fine of $2,132,900.

Even IF the county had to pay the fine it would be a total of 18.6 cents per person.

If you reapply the correct math, you made roughly .5 mistakes per sentence in your post.

That, sir, is quite impressive.

You Stupid idiot are the one confused. Fuzzy Math. 70K Residents divided by 13,081 is 5.38. I was off by 6 cents. You sir are in the wrong. Not me. Please put this in long form of how you came up with 18 cents idiot. Secondly I dont for one second believe that just because a company says they will pay it so no taxpayers are on the hook....you might want to hold off on your so called faith in the government.

$13,081(amount of fine)/ 70,000(# of residents)= $0.19 (actually $0.186871428571 rounded up)
Your division of 70,000/13,801 would conclude how many residents it would take to pay $1 of the fine

Let me show you the "long form":

FACTS:
1. Fine is $13,081.
2. Your referenced population figure is 70,000.
3. Your formula should be $13,081 divided by 70,000 residents.
4. To check your work you can multiply the total number of residents by the answer you just came up with.

Let me make this a little easier for your pre-school mind...

Let's say that the $13,081 fine is a gigantic cookie. Now let's say you have 69,999 friends. All 70,000 of you want a piece of that gigantic cookie. You would want to divide that $13,081 cookie 70,000 ways.

That would leave you and all of your 69,999 friends with 18.68 cents worth of cookie each.

Try the math one more time:

70,000 * .1868 dollars = ~$13,081

Amazing how in just 5 months things change in nov Hardy Bicknell and Yates were bmk supporters by giving him a contract with a 4% increase now time is approaching for them to face the voters and they want to do something about this now but to little to late we voters remember how that vote turned out and I have the chance to vote for all three in upcoming months and I will choose none of the above also I wonder how long it would take off the court house debt with his salary included in the payment

Correct me if I am wtong, but shouldn't the county have had an inspector visiting this site regularly who should have caught this BEFORE the EPD caught it in a site visit?

There are not any county inspectors. BMK (Clerici's company) are suppose to be the inspectors, but none of his work is inspected.
Just like the concrete that had to be replaced on the new waste station. Thanks to the BOC for putting the county in this position.

The county has an environmental inspector who specialize in soil and erosion on the payroll.

Go read the Braselton news...Roy is busy with river watchers but can't get off his butt long enough to do his REAL job...soil and erosion !

So yes he should have caught this BEFORE EPD did.

Ha! Don't put this on Roy. There is nothing Roy or any other staff inspector can do. No one dares stand up to BMK with that BOC in charge. What do you expect him to do, fine the County he works for? BMK does what they want. They are untouchable with this BOC. Besides, I am sure it is in BMK's contract to do inspections and make sure everything meets regulations.

Don Clerici could not do his job without causing problems for the county when he was a county employee in Planning and Zoning Dept. Why did Maw Bell set him up so he could repeat the same mistakes at our expense? I think we should be asking why we keep allowing him to make these same mistakes. If someone looked at all the projects he is working on for the county now they will see the same problems that he caused for the county then. Good ole Pat set him up with this consultant job that has cost the taxpayers of Jackson County a lot.

Hey Poe do us a favor and put GPS on all the county vehicles and start drug testing. The results will make you wish you never left Rome.

BMK got Jackson county fined over in Nicholson as well something like $23,000 that time. Time to show Don the door and hire an in house crew. No more deals !
