The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of a Jefferson woman, who died Thursday morning in the Hall County Jail.
Sabrina Mitchell, 29, became ill, fainted and went into cardiac arrest while she was at the jail, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. On-duty medical personnel tried to resuscitate Mitchell, but they were unable to do so.
Mitchell had been housed at the Hall County Jail since April 3, when she was arrested by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office for traffic violations. Mitchell was also being held awaiting transfer for holds and charges in Jackson and Clarke counties, according to a statement issued by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Foul play is not suspected in the investigation. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
The GBI was asked to investigate the death in accordance with standard procedures for inmate deaths while in custody, according to a statement from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
