Two homes were damaged in fires on Tuesday during the storm that passed through the county.
The Jefferson, Jackson Trail, Arcade and Jackson County Correctional Institute fire departments responded to 933 Ebenezer Church Road, Jefferson, Tuesday on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival of the first units, they found smoke in a single family residence.
The occupant, who was home at the time, advised lightning had struck the power system in the residence. The fire was contained to the electrical system and no injuries were reported.
The call was received during a heavy thunderstorm in the area with severe lightning.
SECOND FIRE
The Jackson Trail, North Jackson, West Jackson and Jackson County Correctional Institute responded to 348 Summer Hill Drive in Hoschton on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof area of a single family residence. The fire was reported during a thunderstorm with heavy lightning in the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Jackson Trail Fire Department. No injuries were reported and the occupants were home at the time of the fire. The home was listed as heavily damaged due to the incident.
