A Maysville city worker suspended in February is no longer allowed to supervise inmate labor, a consequence of the behavior leading to his reprimand. The city council voted to suspend Jonathan Gailey, 24, without pay for five days after two separate incidents involving state prisoners from the Jackson County Correctional Institution.
Additionally, Maysville officials told corrections officers that Gailey will not be responsible for state prisoners when they work in the city, JCCI Warden Johnny Weaver said.
The personnel decisions resulted in prison workers returning to Maysville after they were briefly held out because of security concerns.
The mayor’s decision followed Shadburn’s discovery that one of the two prisoners at work that day was left unattended at the water department shop where Gailey is the city’s distribution/equipment operator.
For the full story, see the Feb. 29 issue of The Jackson Herald.
The residents in Maysville should be feared more than the water boy and his inmates.
Sounds to me like something personal is going on in Maysville because this story if true is something that happens daily in Jackson County government.
Also Mayor Presley had a habit of overreacting his last term in office and more then likely did so again.
Sorry Weaver this story smells.
Why did the young man get picked on but an employee the city fired before get left alone ?
I think the first poster is right, Mr.Sailors is trying to get rid of the young guy. (happened before)
I don't trust Mayor Presley anymore and would rather there not be any prisoners used at all.
I have also seen inmates working alone down where you get your tags in Jefferson so why is this a big deal in Maysville ?
Mr.Gailey should have been written up but 5 days was too harsh and shows that this was personal.
Presley has been in office 2 months and already nothing but trouble.
Ralph is a joke, this whole article is a joke, and something that definitely shouldn't have made the newspaper. I'm assuming this was just as intentional as the persecution of this young man.
Now a 70 plus year old man will oversee 20 something convicted felons ??? Great idea Richard and Scott. I feel so much safer.
I have lived in Maysville 40 years and they always mess up everything.
Secondly, I am ready to see the City of Maysville abolished. What good does it accomplish? We really would be better served to be part of Commerce and representation done by one City Council person. I suspect many dollars could be saved. and stuff like this would be history.
Someone tipped off JCCI and set this up. I used to work at the CI and no way they just came around.
Also a little note for the JCCI folks those are municipal vehicles and your search when questioned by Mr.Gailey should have stopped and a state patrol or third party brought in... you broke your own rules.
Ralph is crooked and everyone who has ever lived in Maysville knows that. Who fired him ( yes he was fired by the city before )...Richard and Scott yet both are being led like a couple of puppies on a chain.
How can a part time employee like Ralph watch the prisoners Monday- Friday unless you made him Full time ? Thats a budget change and Must be done in public but of coarse Richard and his crooked clerk will make everything work on paper ?
