Sales tax income to the Jackson County government for the first six months of 2008 were down three percent from the year before.
If the downward trend continues for the final six months of the year, county officials say it will hit the budget with a $422,700 shortfall in budgeted revenue.
June’s sales tax revenues were actually up by about four percent from 2007, but decreases in January, April and May are hitting the county hard.
Through June, the county was $95,400 behind 2007 in sales tax revenues.
