Donald T. Elrod will be seeking his seventh term as tax commissioner of Jackson County. Elrod has run unopposed since he was elected as tax commissioner in 1989. Prior to his election as tax commissioner, he was self-employed and served as county coroner for four years.
Elrod is a member of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials where he was elected president of the association in May of 2011. He is also a member of Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia and retired with 27 years service to the Jefferson Fire Department, last serving as fire chief.
Elrod is a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he serves as chairman of the Building Committee and vice chairman of Trustees.
He is a 1967 graduate of Jefferson High School, he also attended Gainesville Junior College, and served in the US Navy. He is married to Janice Nabors Elrod of 40 years and has one daughter Amy (Scott) Phillips and one son James (Marisa), with four granddaughters and an additional granddaughter expected in June.
Elrod states he thanks God for enabling him to offer public service to the citizens of Jackson County.
