Airport authority considering name-change to honor late pilot
THE JACKSON County Airport Authority is considering renaming Lyle Field in honor of a well-known local pilot who died in a crash Jan. 8.
Authority member Ken Botts suggested Thursday that the group rename the airfield “Rushlow Field” in tribute of David Rushlow, who was killed when his single-engine “hobby” type aircraft sputtered and crashed in the grassy median between the Jackson County Airport’s two runways.
“He was highly respected all over north Georgia as a pilot,” Botts said. “He was just a great guy.”

I'm sure he was a nice enough guy but Botts should leave us with a little of our heritage. Buy the marker but leave Lyle Field as is, name wise. Botts should mind his own business instead of moving here and wanting to change things to his liking for someone that ordinary citizens didn't even know.

Why name the airport for someone not from Jackson County? I moved here about 25 years ago because I like Jackson County, NOT because I wanted to change it. Perhaps Botts would be better served moving back to Metropolis, and taking the gal trying to change Jefferson's landscaping requirements with him!
