A teenager missing since Dec. 19 after meeting a man she met on an Internet dating site has contacted a family member to say she wants to return home.
Major David Cochran of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Galilea Magana, 14, Lawrenceville, has contacted an aunt to report that she wants to come home.
The teenager apparently ran away during a shopping trip to the Tanger Outlet Center in Commerce Dec. 19.
“Investigators are working this as a runaway juvenile, as they have discovered information that the child left a note that she intended to run away, and also had been talking with someone over a dating site,” Cochran said earlier. “Investigators are in the process of following up on those leads at this time. She and her mother had been at Tanger Mall on Dec. 19 shopping when this incident took place. We do not know at this time how she left the mall.”
Officials believe Magana was picked up by Eduardo Hernandez or Eduardo Jiminez, also known as “Lalo,” to whom Magana had been talking over the Internet.
