JCSO employee reinstated after appealing firing

Longtime Jackson County Sheriff’s Office employee Gary Brewer has been reinstated to employment with the department following an appeals hearing before Sheriff Stan Evans.

Major David Cochran reported on Tuesday that Brewer was assigned as a certified jailer with the jail division at the sheriff’s office.

Brewer was arrested on Dec. 5 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on charges of felony fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and brake light violation. This case has not yet been resolved and Brewer has reportedly denied the allegations against him.

Brewer has been employed with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years and was head of the civil courts division.

we the people are unequal to Govt employees, my company if thy find I have brought harm on or off the job to the company potentially causing harm to brand may terminate me. but Govt employees just have to not get caught guess this guy made good choice in outrunning other county or letting someone drive his car ad failing to release who the driver was, either way if I made the paper and my company was seen in poor light they would and in past have let other employees go.
yes they have to pay unemployment but thats a small price for keeping the companies reputation in tact, I guess the Sheriff is keeping the reputation of Police being above the law reputation in tact in this case.

Yes unequal your company may just do that.If they know without a reasonable doubt... that you did it. But would they if they didnt know if you were guilty or not.I wouldnt want to work for your company if you wouldnt even give me a chance
to prove myself.

The officer has not been found guilty in a court of law…..has he? He (they) have the same right of Due Process as you and I do, so let him have his day in court and if he is found guilty by a Jury not YOU then FIRE HIM, but until then let the man work and support his family.

harm to brand whether found guilty or not just getting arrested many companies do release those employees just like Barrow county released teacher for not being a criminal but in her personal life bringing harm to the Barrow county school system by making the paper for Facebook photo which was held to bring harm to Barrow county schools,
like I said this guy and this sheriff are enforceing the perception that Police are not held to same standard as non POLICE.

I think the sheriff was right about reinstating Mr.Brewer. He has not been found guilty and until then who are you to throw stones.It was a very hasty decision to fire the man without giving him a benifit of doubt.Good job sheriff.

The Madison County SO has no proof he was driving the car. All they have is a car with a driver. Cochran satisfied the people who were quick to judge. The Sheriff satisfied the interest of the County because if/when Madison County drops the charges due to lack of evidence then Brewer will not have a legal claim against the county because he was reinstated. It was well played by both Cochran and the Sheriff.
PS I bet he’s the highest paid jailer in Jackson County history. Mike, can you check and see if he has a reduction in pay as a result of being demoted to a jailer?

Proof- But you know the sad thing is if Brewer were to prove his car was stolen at the time and he was out of the country there are still PEOPLE around here that would always say he(Brewer) was in fact driving the car? They are so quick to Judge and so slow to forgive?

THIS proves they knew they had no evidence on him so they wanted to save face and maybe some money?
AND what's this he was charged with attempting to elude a law enforcement officer? Was he arrested in the car? NO so he didn't attempt to run IF it was him driving the car HE DID IT. I ain't saying he did and I ain't saying he didn't, But the only way they would have a case is if they would have got the car stopped at the time?

if his gun had been used to shoot a person, later found on him and he claimed it was not him or well really you all claimed he was innocent someone must have used his gun and returned it, after all he cant be held responsible if someone takes a two thousand pound weapon and it is his misuses it and returns it to his hoe... it must have been stolen....... yeah and then returned ......... and the keys in his possesion still.... yeah thats the ticket.....

iguess- NO you idiot. Have you never heard of people who leave the key's in their car? I know people right now who have never taken their keys out of the car and these people have never locked their car doors. If they go to Wal Mart they leave their doors unlocked and the keys in the switch. And as far as the gun incident you mentioned? You've been watching to many movies? That's how the movie cops get framed BUT it could happen like that?

is against the law to leave auto keys access to unlicensed drivers, it is also same to leave keys in car allowing persons to use car possible killing others.
anyhow in Georgia one can be let go for no cause at all. without risk of paying more then unemployment as long as the reason for release is not due to race, disaility relgion etc.
yes companies can just say we do not need you services pay the unemployment and move forward.
reason for termination failing to meet company the mission and values of the comppany in public forum. not because he is found guilty or not just failing to exercise good judgement. by hte way i hope someone who has been found in others driveways in past does not push too hard that it was someone else. like I said sometimes running is best to stopping when your with the police cause you know if you get away clear sailing, this is case in point.
a judge already ruled the teacher has no cuase against barrow county schoolsystem since she was released not for freedom of speech but for bringing poor view of her profession to the front of others

AND YES I KNOW MY COWORKER LEFT HIS KEYS IN THE CAR AND WAS CHARGED FOR IT BY FULTON COUNTY, WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN AND USED IN FUEL DRIVE OFF HE WAS RESPONSIBLE AND ALSO SINCE HE LEFT THE KEYS IN OPEN INSURANCE COMPANY PAID FAR LESS DUE TO HIS PART IN NOT TAKING THE BASIC PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT THEFT OR MISUSE OF HIS AUTO.

sweete- And this little incident tells me every Madison County officer had better be careful and abide by ALL traffic laws when going through Jackson Co. because now Madison Co. has one up on Jackson Co. and you know Jackson Co. is going to want to get even with them?

Perhaps I'm not familiar with the law in regards to these cases but what about the brotherhood thing in regards to law enforcement. You just want to slap another deputy into the slammer, jeopardize his career, cause him to suffer a great deal of frustration and humiliation and you don't even know he was in the car. Whatever! Doesn't say much for MC.

Michael- Who said a police officer should get special breaks? If he did it lock his butt up I don't care if he is a police officer, the Mayor, OR the President of the United States if he did the crime he needs to do the time BUT what proof does anybody have THAT IT WAS HIM?
