There has been a confirmed case of rabies in a wild animal in Jackson County.
Rabid skunk case confirmed in Nicholson
A skunk tested positive for rabies after coming into contact with two pets in the Stapler Bridge Road area of Nicholson. The two pets were euthanized after coming into contact with the skunk. The pets were reportedly not current on their rabies vaccinations.
Residents in the area have been advised to take the following precautions:
•Be sure that pets, including dogs, cats and ferrets, are current on rabies vaccinations.
•Avoid any wild animal exhibiting unusual behavior, such as aggression, lack of fear of people or appearances during odd times of the day.
•Report any incidents of bites from any animal to the local health department or animal control.
