Gov. Nathan Deal has had a lot to say about economic development in Jackson County over the past three weeks, but he missed not one but two quiet announcements of industrial expansion.
Deal proudly announced the late November decision by Bed Bath & Beyond to locate an “e-fulfillment center” in Pendergrass that will bring 900 jobs over four years, and last week he trumpeted Kubota’s decision to spend $73 million to expand its Jefferson plant, which will result in an additional 200 jobs.
But Deal was apparently out of the loop as Toyota Automotive Compressor of Georgia made two sets of expansion plans public.
Overshadowed by the Bed Bath & Beyond announcement, TACG announced in late November a $52 million phase 2 of its Pendergrass plant, which will add 25 jobs initially and possibly up to 70 over time.
But in asking the Jackson County Industrial Authority to approve bonds to finance phase 2, the company also served notice that in 2016 it intends to invest approximately $57 million more in a move IDA chairman Scott Martin called, “kind of a build-out of the Jackson County plant.”
The IDA held a called meeting last Friday to deal with those plans — and to up Bed Bath & Beyond’s bonds from the original $46.5 million to $55 million.
For the fulls story, see the Dec. 14 issue of The Jackson Herald.

Unlike these other expansions atleast TACG hires it's employees with over minimum wage pay and full benefits.
Offering 900 jobs mostly part time at base pay really isn't helping our county any. TACG has been established since 05 and isn't going anywhere.
let's see, how is this taking from someone else to give to another? As I see it, there's nothing yet to take because the expansion doesn't exist. TACG is already hear and wants to expand. Appears to me you want your cake and eat it too. Most companies who have come to Jackson have stayed. You obviously don't know what you are talking about.
the production will be moved to the Hayes Lemmerz aluminum wheel facility in Mexico
TACG received huge tax breaks and the JCWSA spent millions on sewer lines that are not even 1/4 capacity on this cluster.
Chamber and IDA don't want you to know how many incentives they really put out there.
Before all of you come on here on your soap box do a little research and you will find out that all this "expansion and new business in Jackson" is farce.
Bravo to the companies who are coming here, expanding, and know the current/future employees have the education and skills to do the job.
As long as the expansions are planned in areas that are base lined for the factories etc. and minimize the homeowner's lives (except in a free enterprise system!!) the go for it J.C.
Does anyone know why the very large HUGE!! brand spanking new distribution center near Tanger Maill has never been leased/rented? Or any other details.
Just curious why anyone would build a giant distribution center and it sits empty (and still is) for years on end.
Got to be a story behind it.
I want to say the street name might even be called Tanger? It is just over the railroad tracks within a stones throw of I-85 and Home Depot.
Everytime we drive by we say what a crying out shame and someone must be spending alot of money to keep up the property for a vacant building.
Anyone?
