Jackson County has landed another major industry with a planned $73 million new Kubota factory that will make compact tractors. The move will create 200 additional jobs.
The announcement comes on the heels of an announcement that Bed Bath & Beyond will open a $46.5 million fulfillment center in the Jefferson area that will employ 900 people and by TD Automotive Compressor that it will expand its current Jefferson facility with a $60 million project that will add 25-70 jobs.
“Kubota’s decision to expand its presence in Jackson County is a great indicator of the success this company has found in Georgia,” Gov. Nathan Deal said. “This expansion is a vote of confidence for our welcoming business environment, skilled workforce and high-performing logistics network that helps global companies like Kubota service the vastly important U.S. market.”
The new factory will be located on the same 88 acre site in Jefferson as an existing Kubota facility. The plant will feature a production capacity of 22,000 compact tractors per year. Construction of the facility will begin in early 2012 with full production of tractors scheduled for January 2013, according to the governor’s office.
“We are honored that Kubota has decided to expand its presence in the City of Jefferson. It is clear that there is a very positive relationship with the City of Jefferson and Kubota, and we look forward to continuing to grow together, creating much needed jobs for our community and developing an even more successful business environment,” said Jefferson Mayor Jim Joiner. “The City of Jefferson welcomes Kubota’s newest facility and gives thanks to our international partners for trusting in, believing in and continuing to create opportunities in our community.”
“Jackson County is home to many companies, and it is always so exciting when one of our companies decides to grow in our community. Our economic success depends not only with new companies locating within our community, but also when our existing industries expand their footprint,” said Jackson County Director of Economic Development Courtney Bernardi. “Kubota is a partner we are thankful to have in our community and we look forward to many more years of success.”
“We greatly appreciate all the cooperation and efforts between the state and local authorities to support our growth since KIE’s inception in 2004,” said Kazunori Monodane, president of KIE. “We are pleased to announce this new expansion to support Kubota’s North American business and to continue enjoying mutual growth and success within the state of Georgia.”

Newt in 2012.
Best republican candidate in the race, President Obama. Republican health care plan, republican budget, republican tax policy, more badass than any repugnantcan't defense policy, republican environmental plan, republican farm and ethanol policy, republican transportation policy, republican bank and regulatory policy, republican Fed, republican telecommunications policy. Give it up or admit that well, wait for it...you might be an ignorant racist redneck. Newt, making Jackson County BOC republicans look like pre-K snack stealers!
Jackson County will gladly take almost any industry which creates jobs for our area.
And since we are nearby your folks can apply for jobs as well.
Jobs equals growth which should relate to lower property taxes in the very long run.
be here and what location.
way to go Jackson County
Driving a forklift for $8.00 an hour isn't going to get it done.
All the numbers are trumped up as none of these numbers are right. They use them for tax breaks etc.
Courtney Bernardi and the chamber are trying to make everything look great but in reality only say 25 or jobs at Kubota will make a difference.
Not one project has made the impact that was promised. Not one.
but the workers there do not seem so gleeful when you go there
They make very little and not enough extra to impact the local economy.Chamber and IDA have done more damage as far as screwing the tax payer then any other organzations in the county.
Why did you run off the last director ? Because he told the truth and wouldn't kiss peoples backside in Jackson thats why !
When you start bringing in $20.00 an hour jobs by the hundred call us until then tell Courtney Bernardi to zip it !
These industries will put people to work. If you do not want the jobs they will offer, do not apply. Also, even if some amount of property taxes are withheld as "freebies" there are taxes on many other elements of production and also other purchases that will boost the local economy. Only here in Jackson County have I ever heard of people complaining about hundreds of new jobs being created. Ask the remaining citizens of the Rust Belt if they'd like these jobs or not.
cities. But you have got to be in the buddy system usually to even get in the door must less make 20.00 an hour.
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither can Jackson County be, but I think we are on our way if we embrace a culture of education and higher technical skills rather than pining for the days of grandaddy's farm (though I learned a lot on the farm) and hating the newcomers.
"Jackson County's population is not as educated or skilled (as demonstrated in many of these comments) as an area like North Fulton, Duluth, East Cobb, etc. that are attracted"
The dumb country hicks you keep insulting will get together one of these days and send the likes of Bicknell and Yates packing.
Look at the people that run the chamber. Nothing but "holier than thou" crowd. Would not know real work if it bit them in the backside.
Go back to Atlanta and take some of your friends with you.
The real statistics show very little to no impact on any of the warehouse and distribution in Jackson county. They employ temp workers and pay wages that are not up to par . All of those defending it have a hidden agenda or are among the sheep that believe everything the media says.
Oh but wait we are work read community ! Anyone want to know how the former county manager and Shane Short cheated the system to get that done ?
Haters ?? No sir. Time the truth on the dirty business at the chamber and IDA came out.
Thank you for the jobs being created. If it works out great if not then not.
Besides an 8 an hour job is a job is a job is a job.
And Newt in 2012
Obama is a clown in a thousand dollar suit.
You are a rascist.
President Barack Obama is the most powerful leader of the free world that finds itself under siege from scared fascist, rascists.
Welfare is welfare whether it goes to a company or to a person it can be used for good or no benifit and once given it is expected to keep being given, one reason why WalMArt has almost 500 empty previous stores once the locale decided to quit giving the tax break Walmart closes that store and moves next closest locale that is up to playing the GAME of giving taxpayer monies in hopes of jobs!
Yes there is a minimum wage in which employers are not allowed to pay below that number, but certain jobs should have higher standards. You should never make below 30,000 a year in manufacturing, EVER!
Wow all this negative talk. You all do know Kubota could take ALL of the work off shore to any 3rd world country right? We all grumble about outsourcing and here Kubota is bringing work to the USA. You do understand Kubota is not an American company?
I laugh at the comment of me being a racist. Just because Obama is a clown in a thousand dollar suit and has no leadership as well as further screwing up the country is good enough for me to promote and hopefully vote for NEWT IN 2012.
Oh but wait: Obama wants to blame everyone else for his being not competent and no spine. And Hillary will go with him and his other little minions.
THANK YOU for Kubota and thank you for BB&B. You can start out at $8 an hour but could end up CEO. Hard work, education, and sticking with the program pays dividends. Now for those who are too good to work talk to Obama for a handout.
Let's see:
They will need raw materials and labor such as:
concrete
steel
plumbers
electricians
paving
gravel
dry wall
heavy machinery
trucks and drivers
73 million dollars worth!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the workers will need to eat, buy gas, etc.
Sound to me like there will be jobs ust to build the Kubota plant!!
For those complaining you are very short sided. Do not apply and do not worry jobs will be filled. Thanks to everyone who made this happen else we will end up like DETROIT.
And Tiger Direct this county is blessed with them being here. !!!
The people we talk to love the company.
Sounds to me like many of you do not want Jackson County to grow and give our kids and US jobs!!!
Thank you Tiger Direct a million times over. Every nickel we spend on electronics is spent at your store right here at home.
Newt in 2012
Newt in 2012
Let us make Obama unemployed in 2012.
If you all want to complain .. complain about the local elected officials who do not pay their fair share, the Horse Farm on Jackson Trail where we the taxpayers landscaped well onto private property. The waste, and abuse of power. THE HIGH TAXES double the average in many cases.
When these big employers move into the county, it’s not just Jacksonians that get hired – people escaping the crush and sprawl of Gwinnett and Barrow Counties fly up I-85 and get some of those jobs and buy, or rent, a new place in Jackson County.
Atlanta is rated the 4th largest sprawling city in America and, as long as I-85 is drivable, people and businesses are coming here. That won’t stop. But there is something that usually goes unmentioned – Atlanta sprawl can drain our pocketbooks and raise our taxes.
Sprawl is the result of subsidies paid for by American taxpayers. These range from the obvious to the obscure and include big projects, like the millions we spend on roads, as well as smaller ones, like tax-breaks that encourage businesses to move into the county.
We've subsidized sprawl for a long time, believing that it is what must be done to bring in businesses and development.
The errors in Gwinnett were:
- Good old boy system
- Corruption
- In Mexico it was posted: come to Gwinnett County plenty of work. So it is illegals
- Willy nilly planning and zoning. Who knew who and put up what they wanted in the wrong places.
- Citizens did not always speak up. Excluding me I was almost banned!!
- Good old boys putting into power high powered government officials (can anyone say Zell?) and Georgia DOT leadership. So the good old boys kind of owned the capital.
This is why we do not want a repeat of Gwinnett in Jackson County. We need to vote the good old boys out of office. Just the stories in this paper about certain leadership not paying taxes, work performed 4 or more times to benefit (my opinion) a private citizen which was no more than free landscaping!! Think horse farm.
Now to the nay sayers about the new jobs. All of these jobs can be a spring board to a higher and better paying job somewhere else or at the place of business. Education, hard work, good attitude, perfect attendance goes a long way. Even some of the union jobs which used to pay 30 dollars an hour for fork lift drivers, pickers and packers have dropped to $10 an hour. Without going into the details.
Anyone who thinks Jackson will stay the beautiful pastorial setting had better not be surprised. When the old times die off the kids will certainly sell the land to developers and garner the millions of dollars profit. Happened in Gwinnett. Like who can make money around here in ranching or farming? Not many.
It will change we just have to be sure it does not repeat Gwinnett.
