A wrong-way driver on Interstate 85 in Braselton was critically injured in a wreck with three other vehicles early Friday morning, according to police chief Terry Esco.
The Buford woman — whose name has not been released — entered the northbound lane of I-85 at Ga. Hwy. 53 and tried to drive southbound. She hit one tractor-trailer truck, before hitting a second tractor-trailer truck head on and then a van.
The woman was ejected from the vehicle and was later taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, where she was reported to be in critical condition, Esco said.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, he added.
A passenger from the van — which overturned and rested on an interstate cable barrier — had one minor injury. Another passenger from one of the tractor-trailer trucks had a minor injury, but refused treatment and transportation by ambulance to a hospital, according West Jackson fire chief Ben Stephens.
Jackson County EMS took two patients to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The northbound lanes of I-85 were closed for about four hours, according to Esco.
Overall, the Braselton Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, West Jackson Fire Department and Jackson County EMS responded to the incident.
