Jefferson leaders agreed Monday night to hire a consulting firm to help with the negotiations for local option sales tax (LOST) revenue.
Mayor Jim Joiner reported that Braselton, Hoschton and Talmo had agreed to participate in this study and help pay for the $21,000 cost. Each city’s percentage of the fee will be based on population. Jefferson leaders have asked all nine towns in the county to participate in the effort.
“This is so important,” Joiner said. “We need to continue. Hopefully, we can get the others on board. We are the lead city because of our population figures. We have more to gain but we have more to lose too.”
City manager John Ward added, “It is a wise investment for you to make.”

In other action Monday night, the council:
•approved an annexation and rezoning request from Diane P. Oliver, for part of a 9.74-acre tract located at 279 Storey Porter Road. Oliver plans to combine the property so that the entire tract will be in the City of Jefferson. Oliver also asked that the property be zoned to R-1 (Single Family Residential District) in the city.
•appointed Jan Mackey to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission.
•agreed for city manager John Ward to sign a letter of intent with Linc Mechanial, LLC, Alpharetta, on a request for qualifications for a study on self-funding city improvements.
•adjusted the street budget to purchase a truck for the department.
•approved the Capital Improvements Element (CIE) resolution.
