The Jackson County Board of Commissioners is considering establishing a drug court and mental health court.
Superior Court judge Currie Mingledorff presented the request and said the courts would serve as “accountability courts.”
“We see the same people over and over again with drug arrests because we have not been able to redirect them from drug addition to something more productive,” Mingledorff said.
The BOC will vote on the request when it meets at 6 p.m. on Monday at the courthouse. The budget would be $70,000. The county also received a $25,000 grant to help get this program established.
What happened to JAIL, isn't that accountability enough?
more endles paper to get money
Citizens look at the math: a $70,000 annual budget (which will grow) and a ONE TIME $25,000 grant. The county which already spends more than it takes from citizens is now spending even more it doesn't have.
When will the working people lay down tools of trade and take up their tools of survival from the oppressors in government?
Soon, I hope for the sake of our children.
You don't know what the math is, "Goldwater." You don't know how much the participants pay to be in these programs. You don't know how expensive the alternative is. Because you don't know these things, you have no idea whether this program is a good idea or not. Uninformed voters like you are a big part of the problem in this country
Hall County drug court graduated six recently. Yep, just six. Any idea how many of those six would have spent the time they were in drug court in prison instead? Likely, none. These were non-violent offenders who would have had probation and fines and drug treatment. So don't tell me how much money they save.
This drug court concept is the brain-child of the hippies from the 60's and their effort towards legalization of all drugs. Mark my words, this is where this social experiment is going if they have their way.
I know people say we need to stop drug use, but drug use goes on and has since chemist started making mixtures.
you cant by force stop drug use.
how can you make someone who has given up stop something they feel makes them feel better, and when jail is just a place to rest and get away how is that a deterent
not that jails should be owrk camps or slave houses but housing and feeding and baby sitting to get people off the street out of the way is not working.
RISE UP citizens against the government and wards of the government!
