THE JEFFERSON Police Department responded to 10 vehicle-related accidents during the past week, including the following:
•two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at the Jefferson Flea Market. The driver of a 2009 Jeep Liberty Sport and the driver of a 2007 Nissan Versa were both backing out of their designated parking spaces and backed into each other.
•two-vehicle accident on Washington Street at Holders Siding Road. The driver of a 2007 Dodge Magnum reported as he was traveling on Washington Street passing the Holders Siding Road intersection the drivers of a 2002 Pontiac Montana Van pulled into his lane of traffic and he was unable to avoid contact with the van. The driver of the van stated she stopped at the stop sign on Holders Siding Road, checked both directions and did not see anything coming, proceeded to make a left turn onto Washington Street, and made contact with the driver of the Magnum who was traveling in the far right lane.
•three-vehicle accident on Interstate 85 at Highway 129. The driver of a 2008 Chrysler reported all three vehicles involved were in the left inside lane of I-85 and a FedEx truck was in front of the three vehicles. The Chrysler driver stated the FedEx truck driver hit the brakes quickly and went over across the outside lane and onto the exit ramp at the last moment causing her to strike the rear of the driver of a 2006 Toyota Matrix knocking the Matrix into the rear of the driver of a 2000 Lexus LS400. All three drivers gave the same astory about the accident. The driver of the Lexus complained of neck and head pain and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.
•one-vehicle accident on Highway 15. The driver of a 2010 Toyota Corolla reported she was driving south on Highway 15 just before Highway 82 and spilled her drink in her lap. The driver stated she looked down at the spilled rink and drove off the right shoulder of the road. The Corolla ran into a deep ditch and made a half-turn before coming to rest, the officer reported.
•two-vehicle accident on Faith Drive at Highway 129. The female driver of a 1994 Toyota Pickup stated she was behind the driver of a 2003 Ford truck stopped on Faith Drive and she thought the Ford driver was going to proceed and she proceeded to go striking the rear bumper of the truck with her vehicle.
•two-vehicle accident the parking lot at Wendy’s, Highway 129, Jefferson. The male driver of a 2011 GMC Yukon stated as he was traveling through the parking lot the driver of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee baked into the right side of his vehicle. The female driver of the Jeep stated she didn’t see the other vehicle as she was backing out of her parking space.
•one-vehicle accident on Interstate 85 south bound. The driver of a 1998 Honda stated he was traveling south on I-85 when the vehicle in front of him stopped. The driver of the Honda stated he swerved trying to avoid hitting the other vehicle and instead struck the guard wire along the median.
•one-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Bell’s Food Store. The driver of a 1996 Ford Ranger reportedly struck another vehicle as he was attempting to park in a parking space at Bell’s Food Store.
•two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Ring Can, Jackson Concourse. The driver of a Chevrolet Aveo backed into the driver of a Mercury Voyager as she was backing out of a parking space in the parking lot.
•two-vehicle accident on Interstate 85 south bound at Highway 129. The driver of a 2005 Honda Odyssey reported the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker entered her lane of traffic and stopped. The Honda driver stated she tried to stop, but was unable to do so. The driver of the Honda struck the Tracker knocking it into the median. The driver of the Honda stated there was a lot of smoke coming from the Tracker as it got in front of her and stopped. The driver of the Tracker wasn’t able to give a statement due to receiving medical attention and being transported for treatment.
