The Jackson County Board of Education approved an $87.5 million budget on Monday for its 2012 fiscal year that will include more funding for personnel and fewer furlough days than once planned.
The general fund budget estimates $83.4 million in revenue during the 2012 fiscal year — which started on July 1 and ends on June 30, 2012 — while expenses will top $87.5 million.
The system plans to make up the difference by dipping into its reserve funds.

I am sick and tired of irresponsible, self serving, kingdom building leadership. It is time for the tax paying citizens to rise up!
I am a big believer in taking the pain early and get it out of the way. Tax collections will not be what they were....ever again. Oh wait, I forgot the power of government they can take from their serfs whatever they desire.
Goldwater, I am sick and tired of it too. The citizens of JC do need to rise up and make their thoughts known. But are they willing to? Are you willing to Mr. Goldwater?
Are you willing to email(sadams@jackson.k12.ga.us)or call (706.367.5151) Supt., Dr. Shannon Adams, and request to speak to the school board next month on November 14, at 6:00pm at the Gordon Street facilities (around back next to the old football field)? Will you show up and express your opinion? I am hoping you do.
I want to challenge you Mr. Goldwater, and all citizens of JC, to consider doing this. Please walk your talk. I'd love to meet you there next month. I'd love to see someone else get up out of their chair and off the porch, and actually do something.
The citizens of JC county have become extremely apathetic and it shows. Rarely, will anyone go to a school board meeting. Rarely, will anyone be brave enough to get on the agenda and speak their mind. It's sad to say that. It's sad to see the lack of interest. But, it is reality. It's our reality and that is how Supt. Adams and the school board want it.
Do you, or the citizens of JC, ever wonder why we have such inept representation from our school board? If you do, then you should realize it is because we, the citizens of JC, allow it. We don't hold them accountable. It's our fault - no need to look elsewhere.
So Mr. Goldwater, I like your talk. Consider accepting my challenge. I hope to meet you there next month and see you walk it. Best to you.
Don't forget, you have to request to speak to the school board no later than three (3) business days before the boad meets on Nov. 14. All of you have plenty of time...
