When qualifying ended Wednesday afternoon in Maysville and Nicholson, races had been set for the mayor’s seat in both towns.
In Maysville, former mayor Richard Presley, council member Lynn Villyard and political newcomer Donna Chesonis had qualified. Incumbent Jerry Baker did not qualify.
Races were also set in Maysville for three of the four council seats on the ballot. Those who had qualified were:
Ward I: incumbent Clay Dorsey, Joel Hammond and Kathleen Bush
Ward II: Clyde (Junior) Hardy and Jerry C. Parr. Villyard currently holds this position.
Ward III council member: Charlie Howington. This position is currently vacant.
Ward IV: Ricky Akins and former council member Scott Harper. Incumbent Stephen Lewis did not qualify.
In the Nicholson mayor’s race, incumbent Ronnie Maxwell will face current council member Lamar Watkins.
For the two at-large council seats, former council member Faye Seagraves, Jan Webster, incumbent Chuck Wheeler and Vernon Wilson qualified.

When qualifying ended Wednesday in Pendergrass, incumbent Monk Tolbert was the only one who had qualified for the mayor's seat. Three people qualified for the two at-large council seats: incumbents Hilda Gee and Thomas Marlow and William Ellis.
TALMO
In Talmo, a city election will not be necessary as the incumbents were the only ones to qualify. Seat 1 incumbent Myra McEver and Seat 2 incumbent Dana Woods will serve another term.
BRASELTON
Tony Funari (District 3) and Richard Mayberry (District 1) qualified for their current town council seats this week in Braselton. Since no one challenged them for the election, they will fill another term on the Braselton Town Council. Qualifying ended Wednesday.
However, voters in Braselton will still be asked to still go to the polls on Nov. 8 to decide about allowing Sunday alcohol package sales at stores in the town.
HOSCHTON
On Wednesday — the first day of qualifying in Hoschton — two incumbents and a third person filed paperwork for three seats on the city council on the November ballot.
Scott Butler (Post 5) and Theresa Kenerly (Post 6) qualified for their current city council seats on Wednesday.
David Poteet qualified for the Post 4 seat on the Hoschton City Council, which is currently held by Richard Shepherd.
Qualifying for the three council seats in Hoschton continues through Friday, Sept. 2, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at city hall. The qualifying fee is $11.
Hoschton voters will also be asked to decide on Sunday alcohol package sales for beer and wine at stores in the city.
Currently, Hoschton allows restaurants to sell beer and wine by the drink throughout the week, and stores to sell beer and wine by the package Mondays and Saturdays. The city doesn’t allow package sales of distilled spirits.
If approved by voters, Sunday sales of package beer and wine would be allowed at stores in Hoschton.
