The Arcade Police Department has been cleared of allegations that it had improperly used its radar.
Arcade Police Chief Randy Williams received a letter on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from the Department of Public Safety, saying APD is in compliance with Georgia law as it relates to the use of radar in the case.
Several years ago, Lyle Thompson, Athens, field a complaint alleging that APD was using speed detection to generate revenue.
“The investigation by DPS revealed that the APD did not exceed the statutory limitation relating to generating revenue from the use of radar between 2008 through 2010. Based upon the investigation, I find that there is not probable cause to take action against the APD,” wrote Colonel Mark W. McDonough, Commissioner, Department of Public Safety.

The real issue, in my opinion, is the question of why does Arcade have a police department at all? This town is extremely small. Couldn't the county take care of the law enforcement?
Michael,
Why don't you ask Doug and the gang that? You're a citizen of Arcade, make the wishes of the people known(unless you're in the minority then they are already known).
About 12 or 13 years ago I wrote a letter to Mr. Buffington (which was published) concerning the "alleged speed trap" in Arcade. I still feel as strongly now as I did back then. Arcade PD is governed by the laws put in place by the Georgia Legislature and the Georgia State Patrol. That being said, unless you are completely out of control a traffic citation is not written unless you are well above 10 MPH of the posted speed limit. (check GSP regulations on that one.) Traveling along the bypass you cross Etheridge Road, Arcade Park Street, GA Hwy 82, Windy Hill Road, Old GA Hwy 129 (which has a stoplight the rest do not), Rock Forge Road, Anglin Road, B Whitfield Road and Terry Farm Road.
Each of these intersections are dangerous enough when you try to cross the four lane bypass and the vehicles on HWY 129 are running the speed limit (55 mph). When you add another ten, fifteen or more miles per hour to that vehicle's speed, it becomes very easy for cross traffic to misjudge the speed of the vehicle approaching them and accidents can (and do) happen.
We have already lost at least one life at the intersection of 82 and 129 due to this.
I don't know what else could be said, but to those people wishing to drive whatever speed they want, my hope is that you never have to explain to someone's relative why they died crossing the highway.
I am very proud of our department. Congrats again guys.
