Qualifying begins in less than three weeks for council positions in Braselton, Commerce, Hoschton, Jefferson, Maysville, Nicholson, Pendergrass and Talmo. The Town of Arcade doesn’t have a city election this year.
The city elections will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
BRASELTON
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Town Hall. The qualifying fee is $36.
Qualifying is open for the positions of Town Council District 1 (currently held by Richard Mayberry) and council District 3 (currently held by Tony Funari).
Those council seats – along with a referendum on whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales in the town will be on the ballot.

COMMERCE
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day beginning Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Friday, Sept. 2, in the city clerk/election superintendent’s office, 27 Sycamore Street, Commerce.
Qualifying is open for Mayor (currently held by Charles L. “Buzzie” Hardy Jr, council seat Ward 3 (currently held by Mark Fitzpatrick), Ward 4 (currently held by Clark Hill), and Ward 5 (currently held by Johnny Eubanks); school board seats in District 3 (currently held by Bill Davis), District 4 (currently held by Rodney Gary), and District 5 (currently held by Paul Sergent, who serves as chairman).
All positions are for four years.
The qualifying fee for mayor is $126, council seats are $81 each and school board seats are $72 each.
HOSCHTON
Qualifying will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 2, at city hall. The qualifying fee is $11.
Qualifying is open for council seat Post 4 (currently held by Richard Shepherd). Post 5 (currently held by Scott Butler), and Post 6 (currently held by Theresa Kenerly).
Hoschton elects its council members through at-large posts, not particular geographic boundaries on a voting district map.
Hoschton residents will also vote on a referendum on whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales in the town.
JEFFERSON
Qualifying will be held Monday, Aug. 29, through Friday, Sept. 2 at city hall. The qualifying fee is $75.
Qualifying is open for council seat District 1 (currently held by Steve Kinney), District 3 (currently held by C.D. Kidd III), and District 5 (currently held by Roy W. Plott).
MAYSVILLE
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 29, and ending on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the office of the City Clerk/Election Superintendent, 226 South Main Street, Maysville.
Qualifying is open for the position of Mayor, (currently held by Jerry Baker), council ward 1, (currently held by Clay Dorsey), council ward 2, (currently held by Lynn Villyard), council ward 3 (which is vacant) and council ward 4, (currently held by Stephan Lewis).
The qualifying fee for mayor is $75 and the qualifying fee for each council position is $30.
The last day to register to vote in the November city election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
NICHOLSON
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the city clerk/election superintendent’s office at 175 Lakeview Drive, Nicholson.
Qualifying is open for the mayor’s position (currently held by Ronnie Maxwell) and two council seats (currently held by Lamar Watkins and Chuck Wheeler).
The qualifying fee for mayor $144 and the council is $72 each.
PENDERGRASS
Qualifying will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the city clerk’s office at city hall. The qualifying fee is $35.
Qualifying is open for the mayor’s position (currently held by Monk Tolbert) and two council seats (currently held by Hilda Gee and Thomas Marlow).
Candidates must be a Pendergrass resident for at least 12 months prior to the election. The candidate must be registered and qualified to vote in city elections.
Pendergrass residents will also vote on a referendum on whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales in the city.
TALMO
Qualifying will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, through Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the office of the city clerk/election superintendent at City Hall, 45 A.J. Irvin Road, Talmo. The qualifying fee is $10.
Qualifying is open for council seat 1 (currently held by Myra McEver) and council seat 2 (currently held by Dana Woods).
All offices are volunteer positions.
The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.
