AN APPARENT drunk driver took off running from an accident before deputies could arrive, according to an incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
A couple living on Ga. Hwy. 332, Hoschton, said they heard a wreck while they were inside their residence. The husband said he heard a vehicle drive through his front yard and then crash.
The husband saw a Ford F150 in a field across from his house. After he called 911, the husband and wife, and a friend, ran to the vehicle.
When they got to the truck, the driver was still at the wheel. The husband knocked on the window and the driver exited the truck. The driver said he was OK and that his name was Jacob, according to an incident report.
Jacob said he was “doing stupid stuff.” When the husband said he had called 911, Jacob said he had been drinking and couldn’t go back to jail because he had a previous DUI arrest. Jacob also called his girlfriend before running across the field into a wooded area.
A deputy arrived a minute later and was told about the driver running away from the vehicle. Deputies looked for the driver, but couldn’t find him, according to an incident report.
While later searching the truck for an insurance card, a deputy found empty beer bottles in the truck.
