The Jackson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously at Monday’s meeting to have Interim County Manager Leonard Myers investigate the alleged forced resignation of a county department head in March.
Commissioner Tom Crow made the motion after reading a prepared letter about questionable actions by former county manager Darrell Hampton.
Crow stated, “It appears that because of my efforts to gather information one of our department heads was forced to resign. The instruction (from Hampton) to have resignation tendered by March of 2011 was given during fall of 2010 after this department head had answered questions from me.”
Crow said the department head had an outstanding work record.

That Dept head was going to retire and has had serious health issues way before this Tom ? Every time we hire a county manager people like Tom Crow butt in and try to run the show.
Hey Tom what about that Fire training center that passed SPLOST AT $800,000 and ended up being 2 Million ??? Throwing stones at glass houses Mr. Crow and at an employee who resigned and is gone.
Time to vote out Tom Crow and D. Smith...no more good old boy politics needed !
And it is time to move on to some one newer and younger that may be able to carry on for 20 years + like the old one did. Not that any one should be forced out but if he did decide to come back it would be for how long?
This is a good time to bring in some one new with fewer projects than a few years ago it give him time to adjust and get use to the job before being overwhelmed
The acting department head is the former assistant and seems to be doing a good job
