The job description for a county manager has been updated and the county is now advertising to fill the position.
Interim manager Leonard Myers reviewed the job description with the commissioners and finalized it this week. An ad to fill the position has now been posted.
The job summary for the position is “plans, directs and manages the activities of the Jackson County government and provides guidance and support to the county commissioners by performing a variety of highly professional responsibilities and serving as a liaison between the county commission, other elected officials, county employees and residents.”
County manager Darrell Hampton resigned two weeks ago after being asked to do so by the board of commissioners. Myers was named interim county manager. He has served as interim manager several times.

Stop here! I propose that maybe it wasn’t the managers. Maybe it was the job itself.
A smart guy named Peter Drucker said that whenever a job defeats two people in a row the job is probably a widow-maker. Instead of searching for a universal genius who can survive Jackson County’s widow-maker, change the job.
And, hey, that was the other part of This Week’s Poll question: “Should the County change its government to an elected full-time chairman?”
I don’t mean to find fault, but the County needs to get this right or it risks its reputation to govern. Jack
