Man’s dogs attacked while he walks them

A MAN was walking his two dogs on a leash on Fair Field Drive when a dog that was not on a leash attacked his pets.

The man injured his knee when he was trying to separate the dogs, according to the incident report filed at the Jefferson Police Department. One of the man’s dogs had to be taken immediately to the vet because of injuries it received in the attack.

When is Banks County and Jackson County going to get a leash law? It's not fair that responsible dog owners have to pay the price for the idiots that think they can let their dogs roam. I have a neighbor that keeps getting dogs, they cannot afford to feed themselves much less their dogs. The dogs roam and form packs. I have had them come into my yard and growl at my children. I put up a fence for my German Shepherd for his safety. If you cannot afford or take care of a dog then do not get one.

I so agree with you.I don't want mine running loose.We also put up a fence...to keep other dogs running in packs from hurting ours!We have spent mad money at the vet because careless,unfit dog owners feel it is there right not to contain their dogs!Makes me sick!

Recently moved here from another state and am shocked at how the dog & cat owners let their animals run free. Besides the fact that I'm cleaning up after their dog's messes, there is no regard for their own pet. The dogs are out in all kinds of weather and I've seen some nearly get killed by a car. Why do you own an animal only to disregard its safety? Would they let their 2 year olds run free?

PLEASE:: this lost generation of so called parents let their children run free just like the animals so it's no wander they grow up & act like animals .. there is just no supervision left in parnethood what happen to the old school when a dog loved his owner so much ~because the owner had spent time with the animal that the animal would know better than to roam in the neighbors yard same with the kids nowadays you see some poor kid floppy across your yard with his so called pants down to his knees & his pitiful underwaer shinning & then the dogs do the same come over in your yard acting like you owe them something.. people need to get back to the Bible it teaches about parenthood & animals ........

I am the "Nanny" for the two dogs attacked on Fairfield Ave in Jefferson. These two precious dogs are not just dogs they are members of an outstanding family. On several occasions I have had dogs come at me while walking these small dogs, one being a bulldog, one being a large black dog and three dogs charge from a garage on Hampton. Have you owners ever heard of a leash, a leash law or tried being a responsible pet owner. As for the devastion, heartache, pain and expenses this family has had to go through, may I suggest that you buy a leash, follow the laws and keep your dogs controlled and SHAME ON YOU!!!!

I am the husband of the man that was attacked and I can personally tell you that the events of that day has changed our lives forever!!
Even today I still can't forget the events...
In a matter of a few seconds a big dog came from no where and scooped up our little female dog and was shaking her around in its mouth like a rag doll. Then picked up our little male with its mouth and threw it some distance causing a broken jaw and missing teeth. Then went back to attacking our female.
The dog then bit my husband when he tried to break them up.
I still hear the yelping in pain of our little babies and my husband crying not of his own pain but of the pain possibly losing two family members that he has raised since puppies.
As of this date we have incurred over $2000.00 in vet bills and more vet bills to come. The female who incurred the worst injury had no serious injuries to any organs but will have scaring, bald spots, and permanent physical damage. The male has his jaw wired together and 2 teeth removed.
My husband also has injuries from the attack and is currently under medical care.
We would like to thank the Jefferson Police Dept for their quick response to the 911 call. I was on the phone with 911 when they arrived at the scene citing the dog owner and tending to the injured. The even checked on our house every 15 min because in my rush to get our babies to the vet I left the garage door open. They have even made 2 follow up visits to check on us and our 2 little babies.
Thanks also to the Commerce Veterinary Hospital. Dr Fagen and staff have shown so much compassion and love to us and our little ones working all hours of the night to their injuries.
I hope no one ever has to go though the events of that night and days ahead we have to endure until our babies have a full recovery.
To dog owners everywhere please be responsible owners. Follow leash laws, don't let your dogs roam free and don't own dogs that you can't take of!!!!!

SISSIES!!! You must be a cold haearted person with NO feelings at all. These people maintain a home, pay taxes, enjoy an evening walk on the street they live and are viciously attacked by an out of controlled dog. Put your "sissy" self in their position. That could have been a toddler that was attacked! People need to be responsible for their dogs.As for YOU everyone will pray for you!!!!

How very stupid don't people have toddlers, young children, preteens in the neighborhood? WHo wants to get aattacked by a dog? I believe you are a cruel, negative and a miserable person. Straight--was does that have to do with this incident? A pet and a man was injured where is your compassion. I want you to walk up Fairfield and I want the biggest and meanest dog to attack you and maybe that will change your mind about life. This couple can have anything they want they have feeling and compassion, jealous?? You should be ashmned for your nasty thoughts. Learn how to spell or atleast proof read your garbage before posting. No prayers needed for me Barb, my life is wonderful. If you know the dogs are there and are mean, then you either go to court or stay off the road. OOPS!! there is a space between atleast correct is at least! You can dish it but you can't take it!! COMMON SENSE you have none! The fact is: the out of control dog attacked a person and another dog. Seriously....Are you a pet owner? Get a grip! This incident is heartbreaking for the family. Who the heck wants to be bitten by a dog and have a family pet injured? You need to apologize hasn't this family been through enough! Think of a small maybe 5# dog with it's hip torn off and hanging------think!!!

I hope you take them to court and get reimbursed for all the expenses incurred in this horrible incident. They should be made responsible to the full extend the law allows. Maybe then, they will be more responsible with their own dogs. I am sorry for what happened and hope that the dogs injured will be okay along with the gentleman who was bitten.

MY MY...I see homophobia is alive and well in Jackson County.
To Straight and DP for your information we do have a son who is working on his Masters on Foreign Negotaions so it is possible for "US" to have childern.
Thanks to everyone for their positive comments and for the other negative comments its not worth my time or efforts to respond.
