Jackson Countian Pat Bell's bid to win the 10th Congressional District's Department of Transportation board seat fell short Wednesday.
Former Augusta/Richmond County Commissioner Don Grantham was elected to the State Transportation Board on Wednesday by a caucus of state representatives and senators from the 10th Congressional District.
Grantham will fill the spot vacated by former board chairman Bill Kuhlke who resigned his post last December.
Grantham, an Augusta native, is the president and CEO of Forest Sales Corporation, a company he founded in 1968. He served on the Augusta/Richmond County Commission for seven years from 2003 until 2010. He also served on Georgia Port Authority from 1972 until 1984, serving as chairman in 1974 and 1980.
