In reading the article I did not notice any mention of the fact that Jefferson City School teachers do not participate in the social security system therefore the school does not have to pay the employer match.... This fact should be considered whem comparing the other systems with Jefferson... I know Mr. Buffington is aware of this fact, but made no mention of it in his article.... Lets compare apples to apples ... The paper should have done a better job in its research....

You are correct that Jefferson doesn't participate in SS. But that does not explain all of the various differences in how school systems spend money.

Excellent article, Mike. I particularly like your points about redistricting the BOE to reflect population distribution. The west side of the county is probably 40% of the tax base, but only 20% of the representation. I also look forward to seeing if any BOC members have the courage to take up the fire spending issue. It is overdue.
