Jackson County School System Superintendent Shannon Adams declined to confirm that East Jackson Comprehensive High School football coach Frank Caputo and several players had been suspended from last week’s football game following a vandalism incident Oct. 29 at Jefferson High School.
Adams said the coach’s status was a “personnel” issue and that the students’ status was a “student discipline” issue. He declined to say how many students were involved.
“I’m not going to discuss that,” Adams said.
However, other sources told Mainstreet Newspapers that Caputo was banned from being on the sidelines last Friday night and that seven football players, two seniors, were also not allowed to play in the school’s final game of the season.
The action comes after a locker room used by the EJCHS team was vandalized during its recent game with Jefferson High School. Reports also indicate that food was thrown from the team’s bus after the game onto vehicles. A sink in the visitors’ bathroom at JHS was also torn from the wall during the game.
An investigation after that incident reportedly led EJCHS officials to conclude that problems within the football program were deeper than just those actions.
Those close to the situation say that Caputo’s long-term status with the program has not yet been determined.
Let's recall what occured last football season... Jefferson participated in many activities that should have be investigated. Did those young men get suspended or expelled?
BUT it was like this when I went to Jackson County. If Jefferson school kids did something it was just kids playing pranks BUT if Jackson Co. did something Jefferson wanted us suspended and sent to jail? If it's wrong for one school to do it then IT'S wrong for all schools to do the same things.
Now, can we all now just move on? Somehow, I doubt it...
The kids that painted the bridge located off S. Apple Valley Road got caught and were punished, not only taken to jail but also were made to pressure wash that bridge. What about the blue and white paint that looked like it was poured out the back of a truck from the bottom to the top of Memorial Drive last year is still visible.
I'm not down on EJHS, my grandkids go there, but.....if they would have been thinking they would not have done this. The circumstances will probably lead to the cancellation of further match-ups, which in the end, will eliminate the chance to get REAL revenge. What I mean by that is re-match. You know, good ol' rivalry. Better luck next time, etc,....
You do the sport, your school, yourself and your dignity an injustice when you act in this fashion. Suck it up. Use the loss as a stepping stone to improvement and come back next year to do better. Showing bad sportmanship does noone any justice.
An adversary...or opponet who continues to return unshaken, no matter the set-backs, losses etc,.. is intimidating. When you lose, whether it be in sports or in life, you have to continue to come back time and time again. Being a bad sport just makes you look crummy!
When the high priest gets suspended, it's news.
I guess some of you would want the coach held responsible if his players get caught for speeding?
This sounds like a witch hunt to me? People are looking for someone to blame besides their kids because then they would have to admit they failed as parents to teach their kids that acting this way can be a crime?
It could get everyone back on a positive track.
