A company that first looked at Jackson County about two years ago will locate a distribution center in Pendergrass.
Courtney Bernardi, director of economic development for the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, briefed the chamber's board of directors on an impending announcement at last Friday's meeting.
Bernardi told the board, "It's here," but said the chamber could not identify the company until the company gives its blessing to an announcement. She said she expects that to happen fairly soon.
After the meeting, Bernardi confirmed that the company, which distributes military and law enforcement uniforms, will occupy 265,000 square feet of the 500,000-square-fooot building at 596 Bonnie Valentine Way.
She said she could not provide information on the name of the company, the number of jobs it might offer.
President Shane Short said the chamber worked with the company about two years ago and recently provided some follow-up information.
"Sometimes they (projects) take a long time," he commented. "Sometimes they don't."
Bernardi said the project came back to the county through the developer of the site.
That brings to five the number of industries that have made announcements about locating in Jackson County this year. Bernardi thinks there may be others by the end of the year.
"Things are still moving fast," she said of development interest. "We're encouraged by that."
Bernardi reminded the directors that the chamber would host commercial real estate professionals yesterday (Tuesday) at a Buckhead reception. She also announced that the chamber will host the first "Jackson County Summit" Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Braselton-Stover House. She called it a "full day of nose-to-the-grindstone planning" for the chamber's economic development efforts.
