Black bear spotted near Commerce

A black bear was spotted by a resident of Trace Lane, near Commerce, Thursday morning.

Around 8 a.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was called to Trace Lane on a report of a black bear in the yard of a residence. The department of natural resources was contacted and an officer was sent to the scene. The bear was last seen gong into the woods.

The DNR asks all residents of the area to keep all garbage or food items well covered and out of the reach of the bear.
