Jackson County is now one match up in its rivalry with East Jackson after defeating the Eagles in an intense three-set meeting Thursday in an Area 8-AA/A North match.
The Panthers won the first game 25-23, but fell 25-16 in the second before taking the third game 25-17.
“It was an intense night, and I was proud of how my players kept calm,” coach Crystal Colley said. “We still need to work on simple mistakes with serving and transition to defense.”
Breanna Chapman and Jasmine Williams led Jackson County with nine kills each. Samantha Kennett had 10 assists and six aces. Katie Ruddick, Naly Thao, Kennett and Chapman “also helped lead the team with consistent points on the serve throughout the night,” according to Colley.
Jackson County also played Athens Christian Thursday and lost in a three-game affair, 26-24, 9-25, 26-24. Athens Christian is also an 8-AA/A team but resides in the south subregion.
“It was a fight to the finish, and my girls played hard and with heart,” Colley said.
